David’s rabbiting on about bunny books…
An exceptionally rare copy of Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit is going under the hammer in London later this month (March 2017). It’s a first edition, first issue and one of only 250 copies privately printed for Beatrix Potter in 1901.
This must be one of the most desirable books for any Beatrix Potter collector to own and as such it’s got a hefty pre-auction estimate of £15,000 – £20,000.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit was first conceived of in a picture letter sent by Beatrix Potter to her young friend Noel Moore in 1893.
The story of this letter is told in Jane Johnson’s delightfully illustrated picture book My Dear Noel: The Story of a Letter from Beatrix Potter which was first published in 1999.
We have one of the beautifully drawn original illustrations by Jane Johnson for her book available to purchase at Tynemouth Fine Art.
The pen, ink and watercolour drawing shows Beatrix Potter with Noel Moore and has a charming border of leaping Peter Rabbits!
This painting is reproduced on the back cover of Jane Johnson’s book.
UPDATE: Sorry, this drawing is now sold
